That is the whole panel. Seven rows, seven amounts, a serving size, a container count and a three-item other-ingredients line underneath it.

The two figures at the top of a panel are the ones most often skipped and they govern everything below. Serving size is one capsule, so every amount in the table is what a single capsule contains. Servings per container is 30, so a bottle is a month at the label dose, and the arithmetic for a three-bottle or six-bottle pack follows from there without any further reading.

Underneath the table the label prints its other ingredients: hypromellose (vegetable capsule), vegetable stearate, silicon dioxide. Three entries, all of them the shell or a processing aid.

A dagger is a statement about the reference framework rather than about the ingredient. It says a reference amount has never been set, which is ordinary for amino acids.

Five daggers on a seven-row panel looks stark until you know what a dagger is doing. Daily Values exist for nutrients a population needs a defined amount of, which is vitamins, minerals and a handful of macronutrients. Amino acids that the body makes for itself have never had one set, so a panel carrying them has nothing to print but the footnote.

The practical consequence is that a %DV column cannot help a reader judge four of the five actives here. The comparison that can is the one against the amount each ingredient's own trials used, and it lives on the ingredients page.

Niacin is the exception and is worth a moment. The Japanese conversion study established the ratio behind the NE unit: roughly sixty milligrams of dietary tryptophan yields one milligram of niacin, so the unit exists to account for what food already supplies. Forty-seven per cent of a Daily Value in one capsule is a meaningful nutritional contribution on top of that, and the systematic review of niacin's upper level puts it a very long way below any level of concern.

No, and it is the most important thing about this panel.

A proprietary blend prints a blend name, a total weight and a list of what is in it in descending order. The manufacturer keeps the split, which means nobody outside the building can tell whether a 500 mg blend is 480 mg of the cheapest item and four token dustings, or an even division. Every comparison with a published trial becomes impossible in the same instant.

This label prints an amount against all seven rows. That single decision is what makes the rest of this website possible: every figure on it can be set beside the figure a researcher used, and a reader can disagree with this desk's conclusions using the same numbers.

It cuts both ways, and that is the point. Full disclosure is what allows the honest dosage section on the ingredients page to say that five of the seven rows sit far below the amounts their names are famous for. A blend would have hidden that. Printing it is the harder choice and the better one.

The last row is the sum of the seven printed amounts. A capsule of this size holds several hundred milligrams more than that, which is the shell, the stearate and the silicon dioxide.

A panel prints rows, not totals, and a reader adding the paired rows together is doing the arithmetic the comparison actually needs. Four hundred milligrams of arginine compounds reads differently from two rows of two hundred, and it is the fairer figure to hold against a trial.

The salt weights pull in the other direction and are worth knowing about. A hundred milligrams of citrulline hydrochloride is nearer seventy-five milligrams of citrulline once the chloride is subtracted, and the AKG row carries one part alpha-ketoglutarate for every two of arginine. Neither adjustment is large enough to change any conclusion on this website, and both belong on the page that prints the totals rather than being discovered later.

The carnosine dose-response meta-analysis is the clearest example of why totals matter: it models the curve from grams a day, and a panel row measured in tens of milligrams sits at a part of that curve nobody has plotted.

Three entries. None is an active, none is a flavouring, and none is a gluten, dairy or soy source.

The other-ingredients line is where a panel tells you what a capsule is made of rather than what it delivers, and a short one is a good sign: every entry occupies volume an active could have used.

Hypromellose is the entry with a consequence. It is the vegetarian alternative to gelatin, and it opens a little more slowly, which is one of the reasons the label asks for a full glass of water.

The label's caution reads in full: “Do not exceed recommended dose. Pregnant or nursing mothers, children under the age of 18 and individuals with a known medical condition should consult a physician before using this or any dietary supplement.
